SARE ~ Supply Agreement for Renewable Energy

The Tripartite Agreement on Sustainable Renewable Energy signed between EduCity, GSPARX Sdn Bhd and Tenaga Nasional Berhad is named SARE ~ Supply Agreement for Renewable Energy. SARE allows Iskandar EduCity to benefit from its onsite solar PV generation at zero upfront cost. With this scheme, Iskandar EduCity will enjoy saving on the electricity bills for a long time.

Under this scheme, Iskandar EduCity can also sell the excess solar energy from the solar PV installation to TNB and obtain energy credit on a 'one-on-one' offset basis to further offset its electricity bills via the Net Energy Metering (NEM) scheme. SARE is presently offered by TNB subsidiary TNBX Sdn Bhd.

The 2 identified locations for solar PV installation

Walkway

Multi Varsity Complex

For this Sustainable Renewable Energy project, TNB had identified 2 sites for solar PV installation, which are at the Multi Varsity Complex at Student Centre and the Walkway. These 2 locations will be installed with 282kWp of solar PV system or equivalent to 345,000kWh/pa kWh of annual energy to supply part of electricity demand for EduCity. This translates into a saving of RM2.22 million for 25 years.

The value of this project goes beyond economic benefit. With solar PV system, Iskandar EduCity will offset greenhouse emission from approximately 960,000 kilometres distance driven by an average passenger vehicle annually.
